My name is Jasmien and I am a graphic artist based in Belgium, with a specialisation in intaglio and linoprints. Since I have a full time job in assurance, I don’t always get the chance to print as often as I’d wish. At night or in the weekends, you can find me and my hands full of ink at the local academy or working at the dinner table.
In the spring of 2015, my boyfriend and I moved to Mechelen. In search of a new hobby and to quench my thirst for creativity, I enrolled in the local academy. I didn’t know what to expect from my graphics classes, since I had never applied any of the techniques before, but I got hooked pretty quickly. In three years, I accumulated so many art works and prints, it seemed a shame to let them gather dust in the box under my bed. That’s why I decided to share my artwork with you and the rest of the world. In addition to the mostly intaglio prints I still make at the academy, I started making more linoprints at home. I’m experimenting with different types of lino and different materials to print on.
Sustainability is a big part of my life an my love for nature shows in my work. I love going for hikes in the woods, but I could never live there permanently. The often conflicted relationship between man/city and nature is a theme than can often be found in my work, sometimes even without me realising. My own pretty city of Mechelen and architecture in general are my other main sources of inspiration. I also have a certain love for abstract art, which is certainly apparent from my intaglio prints.
